Who We Are
The heart, story, and people behind making every prom possible.

🏆 BBC WM “Making a Difference” Awards – Finalist: Volunteer of the Year

🏆 High Sheriff of the West Midlands Award 2025 – Stefanie Lakin

Where We Began
Founded in 2022 by a teacher who saw that one girl at her school did not have an outfit for the prom, Stefanie took on the challenge of finding an outfit for her pupil and was overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community with their offer of donations and a dress was found.
Knowing that other colleagues may be facing a similar situation in with pupils in other schools Stefanie reached out and Madrina was born. Madrina has supported hundreds of young people across the West Midlands and Oxfordshire who face barriers to attending their school prom.
By providing prom dresses and suits, Madrina ensures these students can celebrate their end-of-year milestones with confidence and dignity. We have helped over hundreds of young people access prom wear, thanks to referrals from schools, children’s services, and partner charities.
Our beneficiaries include looked-after children, young carers, refugees, those experiencing mental health challenges, and pupils from families living in financial hardship.
In the Spotlight: Media & Awards
From national news features to prestigious community awards, Madrina UK’s work has been recognised for its life-changing impact on young people. These stories and honours celebrate not just our team and volunteers, but every supporter who helps make the prom possible for all.
